Saltwater Flies for Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon

Pelican Bay Resort

Guide: Theo
Favorite Memory: My wife's first bonefish on a fly and a shark cut it right in half. I have never heard her say so many bad words in a row.

First class resort located in the hubbub of Grand Bahama's resort area. Great for the family vacation where the wife and kids can do most anything they desire and you can fish. Plenty of restaurants, nightlife and a casino are with in walking distance from the resort. Many direct flights right from the US. The fishing operation run out of Pelican Bay is run by Greg Vincent. Greg is a Brit that has guided all over the world and is great. In the morning matching Toyota 4 runners with boats pull up to take you to the put in ramp. Quite impressive!  The ride to the ramp is about 10 to 15 minutes and then another 20 to the fishing flats. The fish around Grand Bahama are big. Seven pounders are common. The water is usually deeper than your average flats so bigger flies to get down faster are the ticket. My wife learned the hard way that there are numerous sharks that patrol the flats. Her first ever bonefish was cut in half  20 feet from the boat. The flats are mostly soft bottom and marl mix. We never left the boat for wading.  Grand Bahama is not the most remote of fishing destination, but the size and quality of the fish and the family friendly atmosphere makes it a great get away.
