Lodge:
The Cays
Guide: Reno Rolle
Favorite Memory:
My wife casting into a school of bones that keep retreating into the
Maangroves. Drove her crazy, but she finally got one to come out and eat. |
The Cays on Great Exuma is a development of several 3 bedroom house that are for
rent. There is no restaurant on the property, but it does include a car so
shopping and dining out at the many fine restaurants is easy. I chose to do a
mix of Guided days and self guided days. Norman Wells, the fishing manager/Owner
was a wealth of information and a real treat to have a Kalik, local beer, with
after a day of fishing. He fishes all the time and if you are lucky will take
you to one of his favorite places.
The island is very family friendly with lots for none fishing companions to do.
We rented a boat a couple of days on motored over to mess around on Stocking
Island. Great food and you can walk over to the Atlantic side to undisturbed
beaches. Scuba, Snorkel and beaches are the other great activities.
The fishing is primarily for Bones with some other species available, but not
abundant. Due to the vast area to fish we hardly ever saw another boat out on
the water. The Bones were all of good size and well saw some really big ones. I
hooked into a couple large ones that ran me into the mangroves. There is a good
mix of wading and boat fishing. I fished with Reno Rolle for three days and
could not have asked for a better guide. Professional and dedicated to you
catching fish. Some of places he took us I would have never been able to find my
way out.
Fishing on your own can be done right out in front of the development or at many
of the flats that are accessible by car. Again hardly any other anglers out
there so enjoy the solitude.
Great Exuma fishing is very tidal dependent. The best times are when the tide
swings are minimal and the fish will be more predictable. So stay away from the
full moon and go have a great time. |
