Costa de Cocos is a great lodge far away from everything. Near the small town of xcalak in the southern Yucatan it is a gem. The staff and food were great. Always ready to help you out. At the end of the day they come get your gear and have your beverage of choice waiting for you. Single room palapas made of concrete and thatched roofs make up the accommodations. They have 12 or so on the property. Nicely maintained and clean. The only draw back is that is is a five hour ride from Cancun, but the Lodge uses a company with nice air condition vans and comfortable seating. You can always take a nap.
The fishing is wide open. We saw Permit every day, had shots at Tarpon and there are plenty of Bones around. It is the typical southern Mexico fishing out of Pangas. The typical day starts with a 20 minute run down the coast to a channel that is the border. Cool Mexican Naval vessel was always at the dock to keep an eye on things. The bay is huge and very few guided fishing outfits so you have the place to yourself.
All in all a great lodge.
