You have mae a great cast, your stripping has got the fish interested and then bam he eats. Then you trout set by lifting the rod. So frustrating and it happens to everybody. It is hard to fight years of hooking trout this way. It usually takes missing a couple of fish before we get back into the saltwater groove. The best way that I have found is to not think about setting the hook but to just keep stripping. I think a saw a movie with that line, Just keep stripping, Just keep stripping, or maybe it was another word.

The fish will do all the work for you if you just continue to strip the fly as if you were just trying to get their attention. Your guide will also help you in the process. Be sure to listen. They have seen so many fish eat a fly that they can tell by the fish's behavior when he is eating.

When you get more time on the flats you will be able to pick up the cues too. The whole body quiver as the bonefish digs down on your fly, the tip up of the tail, or the short sprint to beat his schools mates to your fly.

What ever you see just remember to Just keep stripping!!
